Abstract
The purpose. To review state-of-the-art conditions of sheep-breeding and its pedigree baseline, to characterize domestic breeds of sheep, to determine their role in breed-creation process at building new directions of production of sheep-breeding products. Methods. Statistical analysis, survey of information generators. Results. State of sheep-breeding in Ukraine is studied. Decrease of livestock of sheep (permanent on 3–5%), which makes 719 thousand animals, is fixed. That is in 11 times less in comparison to 1991. Genetic resources of sheep in Ukraine are described. Volumes of export and import of products and workpieces of sheep-breeding are evaluated. Characteristics of basic domestic breeds and their pedigree baseline is given. Directions for further evolution of sheep-breeding and use of domestic breeds in breed-creation process in conditions of state-of-the-art market are specified. Conclusions. Sheep-breeding of Ukraine in conditions of the torque crisis has undergone multiple decrease of numerosity of livestock and change of structure on patterns of ownership. Nearby 20 breeds of sheep of different direction of productivity which are accommodated for natural-climatic conditions are grown in Ukraine. The great bulk of livestock treats to breeds of the combined direction of productivity — meat-wool and wool-meat. In state-of-the-art conditions of world and domestic markets the lamb meat and mutton, and also products from a sheep milk is liquid. Therefore the priority direction of evolution of sheep-breeding is production of lamb meat, mutton and milk food from sheep milk, with saving quality indicators of wool, astrakhans and fur raw material. Basic breeds can be used in breed-creation process at building genotypes of sheep of new directions of productivity and production of lamb meat at different alternatives of industrial crossing. For building specialized meat genotypes of sheep are suitable sheep of tsigay, askania meat-wool, and precos breeds. Sheep of tsigay, askania astrakhan, and Ukrainian mountain-carpathian breeds can ensure building of milk direction. There are all premises in Ukraine for intensification of production by heading elements of industrial production of lamb meat and lamb, building large industrial complexes with all infrastructure necessary for processing produce.Key words: sheep-breeding, state, breeds, genetic resources, directions of selection.
