Selection of highly productive source material in the selection of edible buckwheat
Keywords:

Abstract
Goal. To create source material by selecting promising high-performance samples for further use in the selection process. Methods. Field, laboratory (structural analysis of seed productivity), comparative descriptive, measuring and weighing (accounting of seed productivity and elements of its structure). Individual selection to create the source material. Processing of the results of experimental studies was carried out using the Microsoft Excel 2010 program. Results. The most productive buckwheat plants in isolated areas were individually selected. Structural analysis of plants was carried out according to direct indicators of productivity, and their indices were taken into account: grain quantity III and individual seed productivity. According to the results of many years of research, they are the most informative regarding the selection of source material for the creation of highly productive varieties of edible buckwheat. Determination of the level of expression of direct productivity indicators, taking into account their indices, made it possible to group plants according to close values of the indicators and to single out elite plants as promising source material for further use in the selection process. Conclusions. Elite plants with a very large seed mass — 7.2 – 18.7 g/plant — were selected for individual selection. The most productive samples were selected according to index indicators: 9 — with a high index of grain quantity (GQIII), and 6 — with an index of individual seed productivity (IISP). A reliable close relationship was established between the number of on a plant and the number of full-value grains, the weight of a plant and the number of racemes on a plant, and the weight of a plant and the number of full-value grains.
